Police are investigating an armed street robbery that took place Tuesday morning. The two thieves fled on bicycles and are at large.
On Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 5:03 a.m. our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a robbery that had just occurred in the 1600 block of University Avenue. The 40-year-old male victim was walking eastbound on University Avenue when he was approached from behind by two men on bicycles. One of the suspects drew what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband area and demanded money. The victim threw the money he had in his pocket on the ground.
The victim reports a vehicle drove by which may have spooked the suspects because both fled on bicycles heading eastbound on University Avenue. The victim, who did not have a mobile phone on him, walked to the 500 block of Crescent Avenue and knocked on the front door of a home and asked if they could call police for him. The victim was not injured in the robbery.
The first suspect who was believed to be armed is described by the victim as a black male, around 20 years old, 6’1 weighing 190 pounds. He has a gap in between his two front teeth and was wearing a dark green beanie and a black hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect is described as a light-skinned, possibly Hispanic male in his mid-twenties, around 5’8 with a stocky build. He had a black goatee and dark shoulder length straight hair. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Our detectives are investigating this case. It is possible the victim may be able to work with a police artist to produces sketches of the suspects. If that occurs, we will release the sketches as soon as possible.
