| In January of 2017, Thousand Oaks Police Department patrol deputies learned a 13 year old female victim was leaving school during the day to meet with the 21 year old Suspect Alaa Chaya and engaging in sexual conduct. Detectives with the Thousand Oaks Police Department Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit immediately responded to the school and took over the investigation. Later that same afternoon, Detectives located Alaa Chaya at his place of employment, 1600 Block of Thousand Oaks Blvd, and interviewed him. At the conclusion of the interview, Detectives arrested Chaya for committing a lewd act upon a child, in violation of 288(a) PC & Oral Copulation of a Person Under 16 years old, a violation of 288a(b)(2) PC. Chaya was booked into the East County Jail. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office – Sexual Assault Family Protection Unit filed three counts of Lewd or Lascivious Acts to a minor under 14 years old, a violation of 288(a) PC. Chaya posted $150,000 bail and was released. The Thousand Oaks Police Department Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit continued to investigate Alaa Chaya. During the following months, their investigation revealed three additional victims. These victims were located and interviewed regarding their activities with Alaa Chaya. As a result of the continued investigation into Alaa Chaya, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office – Sexual Assault Family Protection Unit filed numerous additional charges against Chaya. In April of 2017, with the assistance of the Moorpark Police Department, the Sexual Assault Unit arrested Alaa Chaya for attempted rape, a violation of 664/261(a)(2) PC and disorderly conduct (secretly recording someone with an expectation of privacy), a violation of 647(j)(2) PC. Chaya was arrested again booked into the East County jail. In May of 2017, Detectives with the Sexual Assault Unit arrested Alaa Chaya for Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a minor, a violation of 261.5(C) PC; Oral Copulation with a person under 18 years old, a violation of 288a(b)(1); Sending Harmful Matter to a minor, a violation 288.2(a) PC; and Possession of Child Pornography, a violation of 311.11(a) PC In June of 2018, Alaa Chaya pled guilty to the following charges: 664/518 PC – Attempted Extortion 288.2(a) PC – Sending Harmful matter to a minor 261.5(c) PC – Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a person under 18 years of age. 2 Counts of 288(a) PC – Lewd or Lascivious Acts to a person under 14 years of age On August 20, 2018, the Ventura County Superior Court sentenced Alaa Chaya to State Prison for a fixed term of 7 years 8 months, he was also ordered to pay $15,000 + in victim restitution, ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison, and prohibited from owning or possessing any firearms. Chaya has remained in custody since his arrest in April of 2017, due to this he was also credited with over a year time served. |
