Advisory

Flood Advisory until 12:30AM Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Northern McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 1230 AM EDT.

* At 1036 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have fallen since 900 PM.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Ashford and North Cove. Rainfall rates were beginning to diminish across the advisory area, but additional amounts up to one half inch are possible. The main impact of the runoff from this heavy rain will be high stream flows and rapidly rising levels on streams near the Burke County line, including the headwwaters of the North Fork Catawba River and tributaries such as Stillhouse Branch.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

Heavy rainfall will cause rapid rises on small creeks and streams, possibly flooding low water crossings and farmland. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown. Heavy rain falling along mountain creeks can cause sudden increases in water flow downstream, even in areas where it is not raining. People participating in outdoor recreation should move away from creeks and small streams. Only when it is safe to do so, please report floodwaters or landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll-free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names, and other landmarks.
