DUARTE WEEKLY CRIME BLOTTER August 12 - August 18, 2018

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of August 12 thru August 18, 2018
 
August 12, 2018

  • A Petty Theft/Shoplifting was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  An adult male was observed walking in the store with an air mattress in a cart.  He then selected several items including another air mattress.  Prior to going to a register, he removed the mattress he came in with.  The male only paid for the items in the cart, excluding the new mattress he selected. Once outside the store, the male was detained by store security.  After further investigation, deputies arrested the male for shoplifting.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  After conducting an inventory check in the toy section, an employee discovered a discrepancy.  After reviewing video surveillance from August 12th, it was determined that a female adult had selected approximately 40 “LOL” dolls and placed them in a plastic bin in her cart.  As she passed through the self-check-out isle, she scanned the bin, but not the toys inside.  The loss was estimated at approximately $280.  The investigation is on-going. 
 
  • At approximately 12:57 am, Deputies were stopped at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Las Lomas Road, when they observed an adult male riding a bicycle against traffic and without a headlight at night.  After further investigation, the male was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and arrested. 
 
  • Deputies initiated a traffic stop at Huntington Drive and Mountain Avenue, regarding a vehicle’s license plate that returned as “No record on File.”  After further investigation, the driver was found to be on parole, was driving without a license and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The driver was arrested and was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and narcotic paraphernalia.   
 
August 13, 2018
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1900 block of Capehart Avenue.  A 2009 Ford F-150 was stolen from the street between 6:00 pm on August 12thand 5:30 am August 13th.  The vehicle was recovered on August 14thin the city of Lakewood.  No suspects in custody.
 
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1600 block of 1stStreet.  A 1989 Isuzu pickup truck was stolen from the street between 2:30 and 2:35 pm.  The vehicle was recovered an hour later in Duarte.  No suspects in custody. 
 
 
 
August 14, 2018
  • A Petty Theft/Shoplifting was reported at 1050 Huntington drive (Target).  An adult male was observed by store security selecting three electric razors.  He then removed the bar codes and replaced them with other bar codes that were lower priced.  After paying for the items, the male was detained outside the store by store security. After further investigation, deputies arrested the male for shoplifting.        
 
August 15, 2018
  • A Residential Burglary was reported in the 300 block of Greenbank Avenue.  Between August 10thand August 15th, person(s) unknown forced open the kitchen window and stole a slot machine.  A red truck and a black sedan were seen leaving the location.  The investigation is on-going.    
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 1600 block of Brightside Avenue.  A $20 potted plant was stolen from the front yard.  No one was seen. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  Store security observed an adult female selecting numerous “LOL” dolls and placing them in her cart along with other store items. The female then proceeded to the self-check-out isle where she paid for the other store items, but not for the “LOL” toys.  As she exited the store, store security attempted to stop her, but she ran to a gray Honda and drove away.  All the “LOL” dolls totaling approximately $800 were recovered, as well as the items she had paid for.
 
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 1900 block of Warrington Avenue.  Between the hours of 2:00 am and 11:00 am, person(s) unknown pried open the rear cabin window to the victim’s vehicle and stole a camera case containing a camera and accessories.  Total loss was estimated at approximately $8,000.         
 
August 16, 2018
  • A Petty theft/Shoplifting was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  Store security observed an adult female select a back pack, then selected numerous items from the clothing department, cosmetic and grocery departments.  She then entered the fitting rooms with all the items.  Several minutes later, she exited the fitting room with only the back pack over her shoulder.  The female exited the store without paying for the items and was detained by store security.  After further investigation, deputies arrested the female for shoplifting.  The amount of the recovered stolen items totaled approximately $339.  
 
  • A Vandalism was reported in the 700 block of Bettyhill Avenue.  Between 1:45 pm and 4:00 pm, someone slashed one of the victim’s tires.  No one was seen or heard.
 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 2502 Huntington Drive (Maryvale).  Between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:30 pm, person(s) unknown stole the victim’s a backpack from her unlocked vehicle.  
 
August 17, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target).  Store security observed an adult female enter the store and select eleven “LOL” dolls and place them in her cart.  She then proceeded to the self-check-out isle where she paid for one toy, but not the other ten.  When the female exited the store, she was detained by security. After further investigation, deputies arrested the female for shoplifting.        
 
August 18, 2018
  • No significant activity.

   August 12, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult female on an outstanding felony warrant for identity theft, two adult males for possession of a controlled substance, an adult male for petty theft, and an adult male on an outstanding warrant for violation of a court order.

August 14, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for being drunk in public, an adult male on an outstanding felony warrant for evading a peace officer, an adult male on an outstanding DUI warrant, an adult male for petty theft
 
August 15, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for spousal battery, an adult female for spousal battery, and an adult male on an outstanding warrant for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.        
 
August 16, 2018
  • Deputies arrested three adult females for DUMC / Loitering in the park after hours, and an adult female for DUMC / Drinking in public, an adult female for petty theft,
August 17, 2018
  • Deputies arrested an adult male for under the influence of a controlled substance, and an adult female for petty theft.
 
August 18, 2018
  • No significant activity.
