Driver of Stolen Vehicle Arrested Fleeing Collision Scene

On Friday, August 17th 2018, at about 11:13 A.M. officers with the Anderson Police Department responded to the intersection of Balls Ferry Road at Ventura Street for a report of a two-vehicle injury traffic collision.

Officers arrived on scene and located two vehicles in the intersection blocking all of eastbound traffic on Balls Ferry Road. The officers began to assess the situation and learned one vehicle, a maroon Toyota Highlander, had seven passengers inside and some of them were injured. The other vehicle, a white Chevrolet van, was still running with the driver side door ajar.

Witnesses at the scene told officers a man and a woman fled from the vehicle prior to their arrival. Several officers began providing first aid to the injured passengers, two of which where juveniles, while other officers attempted to locate the suspects that fled. Five out of the seven passengers were transported via ambulance to a local area hospital for moderate to severe injuries.

Witnesses at scene were able to provide officers with descriptions of both suspects. Within minutes an Anderson Police Officer located the female suspect two blocks west of the collision.

Officers at the scene were then notified that the white Chevy van had been reported stolen earlier that morning, out of Red Bluff. The female suspect was found to be Alena Rayn Sogoian, age 28, of Red Bluff, CA. A records check revealed Sogoian to have three outstanding warrants out of Shasta County.

A witness from the scene was able to positively identify Sogoian as the driver of the stolen vehicle and stated that she ran a solid red light causing the collision. Sogoian was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, hit and run causing injury, false identification to a peace officer, driving with a suspended license, and on her outstanding warrants.

The male suspect is still outstanding and is described as a white male adult who is 20-30 years of age and has a thin build with short dark curly hair. The Anderson Police Department would like to encourage anyone with information regarding this case to contact Shascom at 530-245-6526. The Anderson Police Department would like to thank all the citizens who assisted with the investigation and who provided medical aid to those in need.
