Odor Complaints Throughout Orange County

The City of Santa Ana has received several odor complaints related to a gas/sulfur/chemical type smell starting in the evening hours on August 16, 2018. Complaints related to odor have been reported from Newport Beach to Yorba Linda. At this time the source or cause has not been determined. City Staff has been in contact with Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District and was informed that they did not perform any spraying in the City of Santa Ana in the evening hours.

The City of Santa Ana takes these types of matters very seriously and have been working diligently with numerous government agencies, including the South Coast Air Quality Management District, to determine the source and cause of this smell.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has been made aware of these complaints and is working with cities throughout Orange County to investigate this matter. Resident are encouraged to call 1-800-CUT-SMOG (1-800-288-7664) to report any outdoor air quality complaint to the SCAQMD, or use their online complaint form, which is available at: http://www3.aqmd.gov/webappl/complaintsystemonline/newcomplaint.aspx
