Advisory

Advisory - Burglaries -Sherbrook Estates, Residents should be diligent in locking windows & doors. Reply with TIP

Over the course of the weekend (8/10 to 8/11), West Windsor experienced several  burglaries in the Sherbrook Estates development. These burglaries occurred on Norchester, Sarah and Suffolk during the overnight hours on Friday and into the morning hours on Saturday. Most were the result of open windows and doors where the suspect entered the home without force. One occurred when the main floor window was pried open.
We believe this is the work of a single individual and is part of a larger scale event where homes across Mercer County are experiencing a spike in burglary activity. Our entire Detective Bureau has made the apprehension of the individual involved a top priority and has been working day and night since Friday to run leads and develop more information from video cameras and forensic evidence.
I cannot stress enough for homeowners in all areas of West Windsor to be diligent in securing their home and windows as well as using the latest security and video monitoring. Locking windows and doors is a common sense approach to reducing the likelihood of professionals and amateurs gaining access to your home and vehicles. Cameras have become inexpensive and do a great deal for helping to identify individuals involved. Outdoor lighting  also acts as a deterrent as does interior lighting. We must all do our part to help keep our homes and vehicles safe and secure.
I have directed our officers to conduct more random patrols into developments and I have asked our Detective Bureau to increase its random patrols. We will continue to use all our resources including marked and unmarked patrol cars to ensure the safety of our residents.
Remember, if you see anything suspicious do not hesitate and contact 911. License plates and descriptive information are always fantastic in helping us do our jobs effectively. You can also submit anonymous tips through this message.
Any new developments will be passed along immediately.
Stay safe and cool!
