Sheriff Richard J. Behnke report that on August 12, 2018 at 7:49 pm , deputies were dispatched to Marcellus Hwy near Sunset Drive , Wayne Township , County of Cass, for a rollover crash. Upon deputies arrival the driver Latasha May Montaro (17 yrs.) of Dowagiac , had managed to exit the wreckage. Montaro advised that she was traveling west bound Marcellus Highway and had approached the curve too fast. Montaro ran off the roadway to the left striking a dirt embankment and lost control rolling the vehicle over. Montaro was transported to Bronson Hospital , Kalamazoo , for her injuries. Speed was a factor and seatbelts were used. Alcohol does not a appear to have been a factor. This traffic crash remains under investigation.


Deputies were assisted by Dowagiac Police Department, Pokagon Tribal Police, Pride Care Ambulance and Wayne Township Fire.
