Flood Advisory until 12:45AM Saturday

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... West central McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 1245 AM EDT.

* At 945 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated accumulations of two to three inches of rain due to showers and thunderstorms earlier this evening. While rainfall is tapering off, continued drainage off the higher terrain will cause rises on tributaries of the upper Catawba River, including Mill Creek, Curtis Creek, and Mackey Creek. These creeks could rise out of their banks in some areas and may flood low-lying areas nearby.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Old Fort.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Only when it is safe to do so, please report floodwaters or landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll-free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names, and other landmarks.
