The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Small Stream Flood Advisory for... Northwestern McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 945 PM EDT.

* At 749 PM EDT, emergency management reported heavy rain had led to bankfull conditions on some small streams in northwest McDowell County, including Buck Creek. Up to two inches of rain have fallen since mid-afternoon. With rain continuing in this area, minor flooding is likely. In addition to Buck Creek, Armstrong Creek and the North Fork of the Catawba River are at particular risk. Curtis Creek, Newberry Creek, and Mill Creek, northwest of Old Fort, have also seen significant rainfall accumulation and could flood.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Old Fort, North Cove, Pleasant Gardens, Ashford, Little Switzerland, Woodlawn, Linville Falls, Lake James, and the Blue Ridge Parkway between Craggy and Linville.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

Heavy rainfall will cause rapid rises on small creeks and streams, possibly flooding low water crossings and farmland. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names, and other landmarks.
