Dante Battey was extradited to San Bernardino for the murder of Kamal Jones

INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: 26700 block of 6th Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Dante Battey, age 28 of Las Vegas, Queron Battey, age 29

VICTIM: Kamal Jones, 19-years-old, Resident of Highland


SUMMARY:
UPDATE – The investigation into the death of Kamal Jones has been ongoing over the last three years. Through investigation, detectives identified Dante Battey and his brother Queron Battey as the suspects responsible for the shooting death of Kamal Jones. On, July 19, 2018, the District Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for both suspects.

On July 25th, Dante Battey was arrested following a traffic stop in Las Vegas, Nevada. On July 27th, detectives traveled to the Clark County Detention Center to interview him; he was subsequently arrested for murder. On August 7th, he was extradited to San Bernardino County where he was booked for murder and several traffic warrants.

Queron Battey is currently in custody in California State Prison for an Attempt Murder in Riverside County. He will be extradited to San Bernardino County and booked for murder.

On Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 7:28 p.m., deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to the report of a drive-by shooting that occurred in the 26700 block of 6th Street, Highland.

Upon arrival, deputies found 19-year-old, Kamal Jones in the front yard of a nearby residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. Jones was treated by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital but died during surgery.

Witnesses described the suspect’s vehicle as a dark, possibly black sedan.




Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail responded to the location and are conducting the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available for release at this time.
