Clayton County Retired Sheriff David “Big Bill” Lemacks Has Passed Away

Retired Sheriff David “Bill” Lemacks past into eternal rest earlier this morning.  Sheriff Lemacks served as Sheriff of Clayton County from October of 1983 until his retirement at the end of 1996.  He then joined the staff of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association where he organized and provided technical assistance to Sheriffs around the state on all matters of operations before retiring in 2012.

Sheriff Lemacks was also a legendary cook in addition to his law-enforcement exploits.  Over the past 40 years, “Big Bill” and his longtime cooking team have prepared many meals for various charity groups throughout the state including the GSA, GSYH and the Sheriffs’ Retirement Fund.

Sheriff Lemacks was one of the original members of the elite Fugitive Squad and can be seen below (to the far right) on a picture of the Squad taken back in 1967.

Please join us as the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office mourn and honor one of our greatest Sheriffs.  Funeral arrangement will be announced.
