Why should students care?

Consider the statistics:
• More than 1 in 4 college women are sexually assaulted.
• 1 out of every 22 college students will experience a crime during their time at school.

While the statistics are alarming, there are things students can do to keep themselves safe, such as utilizing smartphone safety apps. Smartphone apps are great tools for students because they are easily accessible and put useful, typically free, resources right at their fingertips.

Vehicle Tips:
• Lock your vehicle and keep windows closed.
• Park in a well-lit area to decrease likelihood of people approaching your car.
• Lock valuables in a trunk or hide them in glove compartments.
• Keep record of your VIN#, registration plate number and other important info.

Apartment/Dorm Tips:
• Doors and windows should be kept locked at all times.
• Report defective locks immediately to apartment landlords or dorm leader.
• After losing a key, have your locks changed; if living on campus notify dorm leader.

Belongings Tips:
• Invest in a sturdy bicycle lock and ALWAYS lock your bicycle to something immovable.
• Take part in property registrations.
