Green Bay Police Attending the WI Chiefs of Police Association Conference Focusing on Safe Schools

Chief Andrew J. Smith and members of the Green Bay Police Department command staff are joining Police Chiefs and School Administrators from throughout Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association Conference this week at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. The conference focuses on the extremely important and timely topic of school safety and features speakers Michele Gay and Dr. Melissa Reeves from Safe and Sound Schools: A Sandy Hook Initiative.

Attendees at the conference are learning about best practices in school safety, and the many hard lessons learned from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT and its aftermath. The conference has members of law enforcement and Wisconsin school districts in attendance in an effort to share information, and collaborate on implementing evidence-based best practices in an effort to make our schools as safe as possible.

Chief Smith stated, “The safety of our children is of paramount importance to the men and women of the Green Bay Police Department. Our community needs to know that we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that we are implementing best practices wherever possible so their children will be safe as they learn and grow.”

Chief Smith will be available for comment following Attorney General Brad Schimmel’s press conference at 1pm at the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
