Felony Arrest Ends After Wanted Felon Hits Police Vehicle

On Sunday, August 5th 2018, at about 1622 hours, an on-duty, Anderson Police Detective, located 33-year-old, Eric Daniel Hancock, inside the parking-lot of the Factory Outlet mall, located within the 1900 block of State Highway 273. Hancock was seen driving a white, Buick, sedan, and was observed driving erratically through the parking-lot. Hancock was considered armed and dangerous and was known to have an active, felony arrest warrant for violations concerning armed criminal activity and possession of dangerous drugs. When Hancock left the heavily populated location, Anderson Police attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop.

Hancock drove away from the Factory Outlets but upon detecting the officers presence, he returned. Hancock attempted to drive northbound through the outlets parking-lot in an attempt to exit onto Factory Outlets Drive. When Hancock saw a marked patrol vehicle positioned at the northern entrance/exit, he attempted to turn around and flee back through the parking-lot, southbound. Fearing that Hancock’s elusive and dangerous driving was an immediate danger to the public, an Anderson Police Officer was provided with an opportunity to disable the suspect vehicle. When Hancock turned around in his attempt to drive southbound through the parking-lot, the officer successfully blocked the suspect vehicle.

This resulted in the immediate termination of Hancock’s willful disregard for the public safety. Officers initiated a felony arrest and took Hancock safely into custody. A 22-year-old, female passenger was also contacted. Her name is not being released due to her status as a victim. The officer who disabled the suspect vehicle was treated and released at a local area hospital after sustaining a minor neck injury. The officers K-9 was uninjured.

Upon being medically cleared, Hancock was booked into the Shasta County Jail without incident for his outstanding, $100,000-dollar, felony warrant. Hancock was also booked on kidnapping charges, felony DUI, fresh felony narcotic violations, and felony evasion causing injury. Heroin, drug paraphernalia, and ballistic vests were located inside the Buick and were seized by Anderson Police.
