UNIT: Patrol Division

NARRATIVE:
On Friday August 3, 2018 at 1:25 pm, the Pomona Police Department received a call of a vehicle burglary in progress in the area of the 2400 block of Chanslor St.  The caller said the suspect had broken the windows to his vehicle and was now breaking into an occupied apartment nearby.  The occupant of that apartment confronted the suspect, who had kicked his front door open.  The suspect proceeded to take money from this victim’s wallet on top of a table inside.  The suspect challenged this victim to fight and then left with the money. The original victim provided a detailed description of the suspect, which was broadcasted to responding officers.

Several Pomona Police Officers responded quickly to the area to conduct a search for a suspect. One officer located a male Hispanic adult matching the suspect description in the west alley of the 2400 block of Angela St. The officer confronted the suspect and tried to detain him.  The suspect ignored the officer’s commands and fled on foot in the opposite direction.  The officer gave chase and eventually caught up to the suspect who had run into a side yard with no exit.  The officer gave additional commands for the suspect to surrender.  However, the suspect attacked the officer by charging at him.  A struggle ensued and both the officer and the suspect crashed into a nearby apartment window.  The suspect and the officer fell to the ground where the suspect continued to fight and resist the officer.  Another officer arrived on scene as this was taking place and assisted in detaining the suspect.  Both the officer and the suspect were injured as a result of the incident.  Both were treated at a local hospital and released.

Both victims positively identified the suspect and officers located the stolen money in the suspect’s possession.  It was recovered and returned to the second victim.  The suspect was arrested for 212.5 PC – Home Invasion Robbery, 594(b)(1) PC – Felony Vandalism, 69 PC – Felony Obstruction (Injure Officer), and 148(a)(1) PC – Obstruction (Fleeing from Police) and booked at the Pomona City Jail.
