Advisory

Flash Flood Watch until 08:00PM Friday

Scattered showers are expected across the Laurel Ridges into the mountains of northeast West Virginia and western Maryland through tonight. Rainfall with this activity is expected to be modest, with amounts generally under a half inch through tonight. The threat for heavy rainfall now appears more likely on Friday from daybreak through late Afternoon, as an approaching upper level disturbance should provide the focus for training heavier showers and thunderstorms across the region. Therefore, the Flash Flood Watch has been extended through Friday evening. The Flash Flood Watch has been extended through Friday evening for...

* Portions of western Maryland, southwest Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia, including the following areas, in western Maryland, Garrett. In southwest Pennsylvania, Fayette Ridges. In northern West Virginia, Eastern Preston, Eastern Tucker, Preston, Ridges of Eastern Monongalia and Northwestern Preston, and Western Tucker.

* Through Friday evening

* Although scattered showers with brief downpours are possible through tonight, the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding now appears more likely on Friday between day break and late afternoon. Rainfall totals of 1.0 to 2.0 inches are expected on Friday, particularly over the ridges of Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia, as well as Garrett county in the Maryland panhandle. Saturated soils from significant rainfall already this week will make areas in the Flash Flood Watch prone to flash flooding.

* The potential exists for training downpours and embedded thunderstorms throughout the day Friday. Flash flooding of valleys, creeks and small streams may result, especially across the mountainous terrain.

* AFFECTED AREAS: RIDGES OF EASTERN MONONGALIA AND NORTHWESTERN PRESTON ... EASTERN TUCKER ... EASTERN PRESTON ... FAYETTE RIDGES ... WESTERN TUCKER ... GARRETT ... PRESTON
