Theft of Lost Property

7/31 - This afternoon, shortly before 1:00 p.m., a citizen turned in a found wallet, which was discovered in the 500 block of West Washington Street, near the Dollar General. It was soon determined the wallet, which belonged to an elderly female, had a large sum of cash missing. Further investigation revealed two juveniles, who had been riding their bikes in the area, observed a subject picking money up off the ground. The suspect was not the same as the individual who turned in the wallet. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, wearing jeans and a yellow shirt. He was possibly driving a white work van, with a ladder rack. The money was located near the wallet, and a reasonable person would believe the money went with the wallet, and the owner could be identified. The victim had placed the wallet and other items on the trunk of her car, while parked at Mariachi’s Restaurant. The incident occurred around 12:45 this afternoon. The female was very upset, and we want to help recover the money. Anyone who observed any activity matching this should call the police department, at 476-7250, or send us a private message on Facebook.
