Inmate charged with attempted escape.
A Sonoma County Jail inmate was charged with attempted escape as he tried to flee from an ambulance on Friday night. At about 8:30 PM Timothy Schoonover, 30 of Sonoma, was being transported to Sutter Hospital from the Sonoma County Jail after exhibiting medical problems. While being transported to the hospital, Schoonover sat up, unbuckled his two seatbelts and attempted to get up off the gurney. Paramedics in the ambulance were able to wrestle with him and keep him on the gurney.
The ambulance driver immediately pulled over and a deputy, who had been following the ambulance, was able to hold him down to the gurney while the paramedics used restraints to secure him to the gurney. Schoonover was transported to Sutter Hospital where he was medically cleared. He was returned to the jail and was booked on a new charge of attempted escape.
Schoonover is currently serving a two-year sentence for vandalism and felony resisting arrest.
