Successful and Safe 2018 Garlic Festival

The 40th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival was held July 27th, 28th, & 29th, 2018, at Christmas Hill Park. Law enforcement officers from the Gilroy Police Department, Morgan Hill Police Department, Campbell Police Department, Santa Clara County Probation Department, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation– Parole Services, California Highway Patrol, and the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) all provided police services for the event.

The following are police related events that occurred during the festival:

Friday, July 27th, 2018

The Gilroy Police Department arrested two people for public intoxication. One of the arrestees also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Saturday, July 28th, 2018

The Gilroy Police Department and agents from the Alcohol Beverage Control made a total of 8 arrests. Three people were arrested for public intoxication, four people were arrested for being minors in possession of alcohol, and one person was arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Two of the minors also possessed fake identification cards.  

Sunday, July 29th, 2018

The Gilroy Police Department arrested five people for public intoxication, two of whom were also arrested on Saturday for the same charge.

In addition to the arrests, officers escorted three people out of the park for disorderly conduct and not following the guidelines set forth by the Gilroy Garlic Festival. 

The Gilroy Police Department accomplished its mission by “Providing excellent public safety services in partnership with the community.” There were no reported assaults on festival grounds over the weekend. The law enforcement presence at the festival helped ensure the event was free of violence and safe for everyone to enjoy.
