Investigators from the San Gabriel Valley Crime Impact Task Force (CITF) had been investigating a home in north Pomona which is located just south of the City of Claremont border. The home was believed to be frequented by gang members who were known to carry firearms. Today a Claremont Patrol Officer who also was also familiar with the location received information that a known Pomona gang member who is on probation may be at the location. The Claremont officer, knowing that the CITF was investigating the location contacted them and relayed the information. The CITF responded and began surveillance on the location. A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle leaving the location and the two occupants were wanted for a burglary. Coincidentally the CITF had been conducting surveillance for those subjects the week before at a different location. The subjects were arrested and surveillance continued on the residence for the individuals believed to be carrying firearms.
Hours later two gang members exited the residence and CITF detectives attempted contact. One was immediately detained and the other fled on foot. A containment was set up however the pursuing officer believed the suspect ran back inside the home. Pursuant to the terms of the subject’s probation a compliance check was conducted on the residence along with the Pomona MCTF and members of the Claremont Police Department. All occupants of the home were detained, including the suspect who had fled. A loaded rifle and a loaded shotgun were found in one of the suspect’s bedrooms. A replica rifle with the stock orange barrel tip blacked out with a marker was also found in the gang member’s room. Additionally, stolen property belonging to a police officer from a neighboring agency was recovered in one of the suspect’s bedrooms. Both gang members, one a Pomona gang member and the other a Los Angeles gang member were arrested for the above indicated charges.
The San Gabriel Valley Crime Impact Task Force (Formerly the SGV East AB 109 Task Force) is comprised of investigators from Pomona, El Monte, Claremont, San Gabriel, Cal State University (Pomona) Police and the Los Angeles County Probation Department. The team is headquartered at the Pomona Police Department and their mission is to combat high priority crimes that occur in any of the cities that are represented on the task force.
