News Release: Police Arrest Suspects in Overnight Interrupted Burglary; Two at Large

Police interrupted an overnight burglary at a coin store and arrested two suspects who stole an undisclosed amount of coins and currency. Two additional suspects are outstanding.

On Saturday, July 21, 2018 at about 2:36 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a silent alarm at The Coin Broker located at 855 El Camino Real in the Town and Country Shopping Center. The business was closed at the time. As officers arrived at the scene, they observed several male subjects standing in front of the business. They ran away as soon as they saw officers. Responding officers in their patrol vehicles were able to quickly block two suspects from escaping. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Officers observed a black Kia Soul leaving the parking lot at the same time. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle as it pulled away from the store, but it fled at a high rate of speed. No vehicle pursuit occurred. Officers observed the suspects throwing coins out of the window of the car as it fled. They were able to recover hundreds of coins that had been discarded along Embarcadero Road towards Highway 101.

When officers went back into the business, they found it had been ransacked. The investigation revealed that four male suspects entered the store by prying open the front door. All four were wearing dark-colored clothing, including hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up and gloves.

Police have arrested 25-year-old Jamal Deshawn Willie of Los Angeles and 20-year-old Jamel Kenneth Walker of Cypress for commercial burglary and conspiracy, both felonies. Walker was also arrested for committing a felony while out on bail for another felony. Police booked both suspects into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. The only available description on the two outstanding suspects is that they are both adult males. One is black and the other’s race is unknown. Detectives are actively working to identify and apprehend the outstanding suspects.
