EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING and dry/windy conditions expected for Santa Barbara County Monday thru Thursday, including along the coast. Sundowner-type winds will be possible. Take extra precautions to stay cool, safe and alert.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for most parts of SB County from early morning Monday to late night on Thursday.

• HIGH TEMPERATURES...Coastal areas 83-93. Mountains 96-106. Interior 98-108. Hottest days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
• LOW TEMPERATURES...70-80, except 50s and 60s at higher elevations.

IMPACTS...

• There is an increased potential for serious heat-related illnesses, especially for the young and elderly, those performing outdoor activities, as well as those without access to air conditioning.  There is also an increased potential for power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

• Never, ever, leave people or pets in enclosed vehicles, even for a short period of time. 
• Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. 
• Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
• To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. 
• Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 911.
• Don't forget about your pets! Keep pets indoors whenever possible. If outside, keep them in cool shaded areas and provide access to cool water at all times. Remember, the ground can be much hotter than the air and can easily burn their feet and flesh.
