Aviation crews rescue an injured hiker from Big Falls

INCIDENT: Helicopter Hoist Rescue
LOCATION: Big Falls / Forest Falls, San Bernardino
VICTIM: Ceasar Ortega, Moreno Valley
SUMMARY:
On Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2:02 p.m., Sheriff’s Air Rescue 306 was requested by San Bernardino County Fire reference a hiker, later identified as Ortega, who fell and injured his leg. When AR306 arrived, the crew made radio contact with fire personnel and they advised the subject could not walk due to his leg injury. AR306 lowered a medic to the victim, approximately 135 feet and then he requested a second medic due to the nature of injury. A second medic was lowered as well as a rescue basket to place the victim in to. The victim was stabilized by the medics and placed into the rescue basket. The first medic was hoisted back to the helicopter followed by the victim and the second medic.
The victim was then transported by helicopter to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
