1 injured in crash

Sheriff Richard Behnke reports that on 7/11/2018 at approx.. 1140 hrs, his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash, on Dewey Lake Rd, near Roth Rd in Wayne Township, Cass County Michigan. 31 yr old, Dowagiac resident, Trisha Smith, was west bound on Dewey Lake St. when her vehicle left the roadway striking a tree. This caused her vehicle to overturn and catch fire. Fire personnel were able to extract her from the burning vehicle. Ms Smith was transported by ambulance to Borgess Lee Hospital, where she was transported by helicopter to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Seat belts were worn and it is unknown if intoxicants were a factor.

Witness reports that there were others on scene and may have information about this crash and we ask that these people contact the Sheriffs Office 269 445 8644 as this case remains under investigation.
