Early this morning, at about 6 a.m., the San Mateo Police Department assisted allied agencies on a multi-jurisdictional criminal investigation that included search and arrest warrants at a number of locations within San Mateo. These services included the use of distractionary devices that produce a loud explosive like sound. Please note these devices can often can be misinterpreted as gunshots and no shots were fired.The safety of our community, our officers, and all parties involved is our first priority and this operation was planned to ensure that was successfully accomplished. San Mateo Police Department is not the investigating agency; therefore, we are currently unable to release any additional information. Within the next few days, the lead agency will make an announcement of the details of the investigation and we will share that information with our community.
