Plastic bags may not be in the recyclables.  This means that plastic shopping bags may not be recycled with the bottles and cans.  These bags can damage the machines at the recycling plant.  If they are mixed in with the bottles and cans, the facility we take our recycling to can and will reject the entire load of recycling.  The Borough of Carlstadt, in cooperation with Stop & Shop, has obtained bins for recycling of plastic shopping bags which are located at the following places:
 

• Borough Hall
• Civic Center
• Carlstadt Public School
• Stop & Shop

 
Furthermore, plastic garbage bags may not be used to place recycling curbside for collection.  All bottles and cans must be placed curbside in a clean (Recyclables Only) can. Garbage bags can not only damage the machinery at the recycling plant, but has often had garbage mixed with the recyclables. 
 
So please remember, NO PLASTIC BAGS OR PLASTIC GARBAGE BAGS WITH THE BOTTLES AND CANS.  Having these with your recyclable will cause your recyclables to not be collected.
