The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

July 3rd

1240 Hours: Officer Damewood contacted and arrested a 33-year-old Newark female for her outstanding warrant on the 39900 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1937 Hours: Officer Wallace seized the license plates off a vehicle for false registration on Cedar Boulevard at Mowry Avenue during a routine traffic stop. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

0512 Hours: Officer Geser responded to a disturbance on Kiote Drive at Jarvis Avenue. A 43-year-old San Francisco male was contacted and arrested for his outstanding warrant and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

July 4th

0640 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated the theft of a Ford E350 Van on the 37300 block of Cedar Boulevard. The vehicle was located and recovered via an on-board GPS tracking system a short time later on the 38500 block of Cherry Street.

1103 Hours: Officer Wilkerson investigated an auto burglary on the 36200 block of Toulon Place. The loss is a laptop computer.

1153 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated an auto burglary on the 38200 block of Columbine Place. The loss is a softball bag and bat.

1302 Hours: Detective Warren was conducting a security check in the Home Depot parking lot, 5401 Thornton Avenue when he spotted a suspicious van in the parking lot with a male subject standing near it. Detective Warren watched the van and the subject for a period of time. He saw several people walk up to the van and speak to the subject. Detective Warren approached the subject and noticed a large amount of illegal fireworks inside the van. Detective Warren seized the fireworks and arrested the suspect, a 50-year-old Fremont male for possession of fireworks for sale without a permit. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded to take possession of the fireworks.

1724 Hours: Officer Cervantes investigated a residential burglary on the 5700 block of Forbes Avenue. The loss was a small safe, jewelry and documents.

Fireworks Suppression:
Officers responded to a total of 116 fireworks related calls throughout the day and night.
