The annual fireworks show will occur at the Sonoma Marin Fairgrounds starting around 9:15 PM tonight. Expect large crowds and heavy traffic congestion in the area. Alternative locations for discharging state-approved fireworks have been designated for residents in the following locations:
McNear Park
Prince Park
Luchessi Park-northwest parking lot and grass area ONLY
Wiseman Park-ball fields ONLY
City Hall-westside lawn and parking lot area ONLY
No fireworks, including state-approved are allowed in the High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (HFHSZ). The HFHSZ is primarily located within the western fringes of the City limits where a higher propensity for wildfire danger is present. See attached map or call 778-4372 if you have questions. Most shopping centers prohibit the use of fireworks, including; Plaza North, Plaza, Washinton Place and the Petaluma Premium Outlets. Fireworks that are not state-approved are illegal. Extra police officers and fire personnel will be working tonight and responding to calls for service regarding illegal fireworks. To report individuals using, possessing or selling illegal fireworks call 778-4372. Pet owners should also make sure that their pets are safely cared for during the night. To report a distressed animal, call 778-7387. Motorist should drive with extra caution in residential neighborhoods due to children and fireworks in the street during the night. The City askes all resident to clean the street after using fireworks and safely dispose of any firework remnants.
