A woman returned home to find a burglary suspect inside her apartment on Saturday. The suspect shoved the resident, escaped on foot, and remains at large.
On Saturday, June 30, 2018 at about 9:22 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a burglary in progress at an apartment in the 300 block of Curtner Avenue. Officers responded immediately to the scene. Canine units from the Atherton Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for the suspect, but could not locate him.
The investigation revealed that the victim, a woman in her forties, had returned home after leaving her apartment around 8:50 a.m. to run an errand. When she returned 30 minutes later, she found her front door unlocked and an interior light on. As she entered, she noticed her belongings had been rummaged through and saw a man she did not recognize in her home. The suspect looked surprised to see her, and then pushed her into a wall causing her to fall as he fled on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries on her arm from the suspect pushing her, but did not require medical treatment.
The victim described the suspect as a white male in his twenties, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. She said he had dark brown hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing gloves, a grey long-sleeved sweatshirt, and black pants. The suspect escaped with jewelry and money from the residence.
