Excessive heat continues, thunderstorms with slow moving downpours possible this afternoon/evening
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Temperatures again are forecasted to reach the lower to mid 90s with heat indices near 105.
Cooling centers at the North Brunswick Library (880 Hermann Road) and the North Brunswick Senior Center (15 Linwood Place) are open today. The Library is open until 9 p.m. and the Senior Center is open until 4 p.m.
Please take it easy if working outdoors, drink plenty of water and seek shade when possible. Wear light weight clothing. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
There is a risk of showers and storms this afternoon and evening. With ample moisture and slow movement, any storms today could produce pockets of 1-3 inches of rainfall fairly quickly. This could result in a few areas of poor drainage/roadway flooding.
The one positive with this setup is that the storm coverage will be isolated in nature and generally ‘hit or miss’. The peak storm coverage is expected between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., before waning between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
