Heat Advisory until 08:00PM Wednesday

...Heat Advisory in effect across the entire Quad State region for Independence Day... .Warm and humid air, combined with abundant sunshine and light winds, will set the stage for dangerous heat across the area on Independence Day. ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM CDT WEDNESDAY... The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Wednesday.

* TEMPERATURE...Values are expected to peak out in the middle 90s Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to rise above 90 by 11 am CDT and remain there through 7 pm CDT. Combined with high humidity, this will produce heat index values in excess of 105 degrees for most locations in the Quad State region.

* IMPACTS...Given the large number of outdoor and holiday activities scheduled, there will be an increase in the potential for heat related stress or illness across the area. Travelers and residents remaining outdoors for prolonged periods may need to be watchful for the very young, elderly, and those with medical conditions susceptible to the heat and humidity. Pets and livestock should also be monitored for heat stress.

Instructions:

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work...the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9 1 1.
