Arrest Made in Laptop Theft

On June 26th around 10:30 am, a customer was seated on the patio area of Café Strada working on their laptop when a suspect stole it from under their typing hands.  Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle, which led detectives to the identity of the suspect.
 
On June 30th at about 11:40 am, officers spotted the suspect (Kenneth Anthony Hendon, Male, 20 years old, Berkeley, CA) on the 1700 block of Alcatraz Avenue and arrested him on suspicion of robbery.
The Berkeley Police Department would like to remind everyone to remain aware and alert while using their laptops in public spaces.  If you have to leave your seating space, consider taking your laptop with you or have someone you really trust watch it for you.

18-35154              Burglar Caught with Cocaine                      2700 block of Durant Avenue
On June 27th at about 4:30 am, a resident was asleep in his apartment when he heard a noise.  When the resident got up and turned the light on, he discovered that there was man in his room.  The man told the resident he was trying to find some other address.  Strangely, the man then offered to sell the resident some cocaine—pulling out his baggie of white powder.  The resident told the man to leave and called BPD.
 
A few hours later (5:17 am), officers discovered the suspect on the corner of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue.  When officers began to search the suspect, he suddenly started to run away.  Before the suspect could escape, the officers were able to tackle and restrain the suspect with the assistance of several other officers.  After completing their search of the suspect, officers located over 16 grams of cocaine on the suspect.
 
As a result of the encounter, one of the officers was treated and released at a local hospital for a laceration to his forehead.  The suspect was treated/released at the scene for a scrape on his forehead.
 
The suspect (Jahcoby Dillon Adams-Mabin, Male, 24, Berkeley, CA) was arrested for burglary, threatening violence on a peace officer, felony battery upon emergency personnel, and possession of a controlled substance.
 
18-36040              Shoplifter Captured
On June 26th at about 2:21 pm, officers responded to REI (1338 San Pablo Avenue) on a report of a theft.  About a block away from REI, officers spotted the suspect riding a Ford Go bicycle—southbound on 10th Street (near Camelia Street).  Officers detained the suspect and recovered over $900 worth of stolen clothes from REI.
 
The suspect (Christopher Scott Sinclair, Male, 28, Homeless) was arrested for grand theft as well as an outstanding arrest warrant.  After the arrest, officers returned the Ford Go Bicycle to a nearby kiosk (as seen in the video—https://youtu.be/06cveheBROo)

18-19302              Arrest Made in April Stabbing
On April 3rd 2018 at 7:26 pm, officers responded to the 1700 block of McGee Avenue for a reported stabbing.  On arrival, officers discovered a 20 year old male who had been stabbed.  After the incident, investigators were able to identify the suspect.  After his vehicle was towed on an unrelated matter, investigators were able to arrest the suspect at the Police Station when he came to obtain a tow release for his vehicle on June 26th.
 
The suspect (Joshua F Gertz, Male, 19 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery, and for violating his probation.
