Noble County Health Departments "No Swim" advisory remains in effect for the West Lakes Chain until further notice
The Noble County Health Department's "Swim Advisory" order for the West Lakes Chain remains in effect until further notice and people swim at their own risk. The original advisory was issued on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018 when a single test result showed a high concentration of E.coli bacteria at the mouth of the stream near the sandbar on Steinbarger Lake. Additional test have been done in other areas of Steinbarger Lake but that is the only area that has shown a high concentration of E.coli bacteria.
Further testing has been done upstream on Boughey Ditch since last Saturday but as of this afternoon they have been unable to positively identify a single source point of the bacteria. Extensive testing will continue. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is now working with the health department to try and determine the cause of the high readings.
