Town of West New York Opens Cooling Centers
Residents Urged to Check on Neighbors Who May Need Assistance, Stay Out of Heat

Mayor Felix E. Roque, M.D. and the West New York Board of Commissioners announce the opening of 6 Cooling Centers throughout West New York, offering residents and the community at large relief from the heat. With temperatures expected to be in the 90s again this week, individuals who do not have access to a cool environment, and particularly those at risk for heat-related illness, should take advantage of the cooling centers during this heat wave.

“Our cooling centers will be open, and we strongly encourage our residents to take advantage of them throughout the week and anytime conditions become dangerous," said Mayor Felix E. Roque, M.D. “We remind residents to stay out of the heat and to check on those who may need assistance.”

The Town of West New York opens cooling centers in air-conditioned public facilities for those experiencing physical discomfort in a heat wave, and anyone can take advantage of the cooling centers. West New York Cooling Centers are open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the following locations:
  • 430 62nd Street
  • 6100 Adams Street
  • 6300 Adams Street
  • 5800 Jefferson Street
  • 515 54th Street
  • West New York Library
The West New York Library, located at 425 60th St., West New York, NJ 07093, will also be open for seniors, residents and anyone in need of a place to cool down on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., as well as Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Town of West New York encourages all residents, especially pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and the disabled to stay safe by staying indoors or by taking advantage of the cooling facilities, if necessary. Call 911 or go to the emergency room right away if you or someone you know is experiencing a medical emergency. Residents may call The West New York Police Department Command Center at 201-295-5000 to report non-emergency issues.
