Active Shooter/Mass Casualty Safety Message From The Desk Of Sheriff Victor Hill

Yesterday, we as a nation was saddened once again to learn about another active-shooter/mass casualty incident in Annapolis MD.  Out prayers and deepest sympathies will remain with all of those affected.

Ironically, I had just held a mandatory meeting with my entire command staff about active-shooter/mass casualty response just a couple of hours before I was notified about this tragic event.   This meeting addressed how we would train and make sure everyone of my Deputies have the proper equipment to respond and put a stop to an active shooter.  More importantly, we discussed how we could prevent an active shooter situation from even occurring.  We all watched a video that showed over 100 active-shooter/mass casualty incidents that were stopped before they could happen by both the public and law-enforcement together being vigilant and taking proactive action.

We must always remember that thoughts become words, and words become action.  Studies are showing that the majority of people who became active shooters displayed loud warning signs with their words and actions to someone before they carried out these deadly acts.   When this occurs, ignoring their words and actions by failing to to get them monitored,  or mental health assistance can result in devastating consequences.

Make no mistake, I will insure that the Sheriff’s Office is prepared to meet any threat on Clayton County with superior force, however, I want us to put as much effort into the prevention of an active-shooter incident as we will on responding to and stopping a active shooter incident.

I would appreciate it if everyone would click on this link  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHFxhRTNO_0  and at least watch the first 15 minutes to learn how we can work together to prevent a active-shooter/mass casualty event from occurring in our community.  Please be sure to show this to your school age children so that we can keep our schools safe from this type of tragedy as well.
