NWS Flood Advisory for our area

The National Weather Service has issued 2 advisory messages for the southern Middlesex County area for the current heavy rainfall in this thunderstorm. Please use caution on roads as you begin your commute.

Central Monmouth County in central New Jersey...

* Until 930 AM EDT.

* At 634 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms located over Mercer County, moving east-northeast at
25 MPH. As this heavy rain moves through central New Jersey, minor
flooding, including roadway flooding, will result.

* Some locations that could experience flooding include...
New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Somerville, Somerset, Edison,
Middletown, Old Bridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick,
Sayreville, North Brunswick, Marlboro, Manalapan, Carteret, Tinton
Falls, Holmdel, Madison, Middlesex, Red Bank and Bound Brook.

* Until 945 AM EDT.

* At 545 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms moving into the area. This will bring a quick one to
two inches of rain leading to urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area.

* Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Trenton, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Ewing, Princeton,
Hatboro, Ambler, Hightstown, Cranbury, Pennington, New Hope,
Yardley, Newtown, Hopewell, Langhorne, Bryn Athyn, Ivyland, Rocky
Hill, Skillman and Richboro.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
