Arrest Made in Recent Robbery

Arrest Made in Recent Robbery
On June 17th at about 1:30 am, a suspect entered Touchless Car Wash—demanding a free pack of cigarettes.  When the clerk refused, the suspect took a pack of cigarettes and began to leave the store.  When the employee tried to prevent the suspect from leaving, the suspect pushed the employee out of the way—last seen walking west on Kittredge Street (https://local.nixle.com/alert/6630712/).

On June 23rd at about 7: 30 pm, two officers were patrolling the area of Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way when they saw a man who resembled the Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) flyer distributed after the robbery at Touchless Car Wash.

Officers contacted the man and discovered that he was on probation.  When officers searched the man under the terms of his probation, they discovered he had an illegal methamphetamine smoking pipe and consequently arrested him.  After the arrest, the man later admitted to earlier robbery.

Arrested: Jeremy Edward Young, Male, 30 years old, Hayward, CA

Some Other Notable Arrests from this past Weekend
Arrest of Auto Burglar
On June 23rd between 10:15 am and 4 pm, a community member had his wallet stolen from his parked vehicle on San Pablo Avenue (near Virginia Street).  A few hours later, the victim realized that his wallet was missing from his vehicle and called BPD to report it.  The victim also discovered several fraudulent charges on his credit card made at local stores.

Realizing that one of the charges were at a local motel, officers went to the motel and inquired about the fraudulent charges.  There, officers discovered that a room had been rented in the victim’s name.  Since no one was in the room at the time, officers waited for the suspect to return—where they arrested him later.

When officers searched the room, they found the victim’s wallet and the suspect admitted to burglarizing his vehicle.
Arrested: Joel James Santos, Male, 30, Richmond, CA

Tip Jar Thief Arrested
On June 18th at 6:30 pm, a store on the 2100 block of Center Street reported a that a suspect stole their tip jar and in the process struck one of the store’s employees by pushing them and throwing a chair and the now emptied tip jar at them.  While fleeing the business, the suspect also threw a glass bottle at a woman who happened to be passing by.  When the bottle struck the woman, she dropped her wallet and the suspect was believed to have taken it as well.

After the incident, officers reviewed the store’s video surveillance and recognized the suspect from previous contacts with him.  Based on this, officers requested a complaint/warrant for the suspect’s arrest—(Bennet Lemar Taylor, Male, 53 years old, Homeless).

On June 24th at about 2:23 am, officers again responded to the 2100 block of Center Street on a report of a disturbance where a person was refusing to leave a restaurant and swinging an umbrella at store employees.

When officers arrived, they recognized the suspect from the earlier Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) flyer from the June 18th incident.  The suspect was consequently arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, theft, and violation of probation.
