The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

June 21st

0935 Hours: Officer Damewood investigated the theft of a pair of glasses from Bella Eye Care, 6247 Dumbarton Court.

1244 Hours: Officer Wilkerson investigated the theft of construction tools from the back of a pickup truck on the 3000 block of Newpark Mall Road.

1624 Hours: Officer Wilkerson contacted and arrested a 45-year-old Fremont male for possession of drug paraphernalia on the 6300 block of Civic Terrace. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1907 Hours: Officer Wang investigated the theft of a bicycle on the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue.

June 22nd

1105 Hours: Officer Wilkerson contacted and arrested a 58-year-old Fremont male for possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant on the 35000 block of Newark Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1516 Hours: Officer Damewood was patrolling the Safeway parking lot, 5877 Jarvis Avenue when he observed a shoplifter flee the store with a basket of stolen groceries. The subject, a 28-year-old Bay Point male was caught a short distance away and was detained. The store manager placed the suspect under citizen’s arrest for petty theft and Officer Damewood accepted the arrest. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2011 hours: Officer Taylor investigated the theft of a black Ford Focus (CA License #7ZJW515) on the 39200 block of Cedar Boulevard.

0246 hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 27-year-old Fremont male for driving under the influence during a traffic stop on Thornton Avenue at Highway 880. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

June 23rd

1511 Hours: Officer Lenz investigated the theft of a grey, 1997 Nissan XE (CA License #5P30693) from the Newpark Mall parking lot.

1955 hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 55-year-old San Jose male for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of fraudulent identification during a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard at Birch Street. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2051 hours: Officer San Pedro investigated the use of counterfeit money being used to purchase Lotto tickets at Abes Liquors, 35236 Newark Boulevard.

2153 hours: Officer Slavazza investigated the theft of tools from an unlocked toolbox in the bed of a pickup on the 35900 block of Burning Tree Terrace.

2210 hours: Officers responded to a disturbance on the 5700 block of Dichondra Place. A 48-year-old Newark male was contacted and arrested for a restraining order violation and subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

June 24th

0745 Hours: Officer Nobbe contacted and arrested a 30-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrant while performing a security check of the homeless encampment along SR-84 and Highway 880. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

0753 Hours: Officer Herbert seized the license plate off a vehicle for false registration on the 5600 block of Jarvis Avenue.

1135 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated the theft of a customer’s cellphone at Chuck E Cheese, 39839 Mowry School Road.

2015 hours: Officer Riddles investigated an auto burglary on the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue. The loss is a gym bag, backpack and camera.
