No outdoor tornado warning siren test today
Monthly testing for KCMO emergency sirens canceled for July 4th
The July testing of the City’s emergency sirens is shifting from the first Wednesday of the month, July 4, to the second Wednesday, July 11, due to the Independence Day holiday.
The regularly scheduled monthly testing gets back on track Aug. 1.
The outdoor warning sirens are tested to make sure they are ready during emergencies. The City owns more than 130 sirens operated and maintained by the Office of Emergency Management.
The benefits of rescheduling include:
- Ensuring that staff and followers of the siren test are in their normal locations to listen to the sirens and not off work for the holiday.
- Minimizing disruption to holiday events.
- Eliminating a potential two-month gap in sounding the sirens if the test was not rescheduled.
