Tobacco Compliance Investigations

Last Week the Green Bay Police Department partnered with Brown County Health and Human Services to conduct WI WINS Tobacco Compliance Investigations in the city of Green Bay. Our goal to ensure all businesses do not sell tobacco products to minors.

Community Police officers worked with local youth to do compliance investigations on 67 locations in the city of Green Bay. Of the 67, there were only three locations that sold tobacco products to the minors. This equates to a 4.4% sales rate which is down from 12.9% sales rate in 2017.

The investigations are ongoing and we want to educate businesses on the importance of keeping tobacco out of kids hands. We want to thank all the businesses in Green Bay that are following the laws and protecting our youth by and keep tobacco out of kids’ hands— including new, candy-flavored tobacco products that appeal to youth.

WI Wins is a research-based campaign to reduce youth access to tobacco. It is using a positive reinforcement strategy that congratulates stores and clerks for being a positive influence by not selling tobacco to minors. You can find out more about WI Wins at www.wiwins.org
