Advisory

Heat Advisory in effect from noon to 8:00 P.M. today, high of 95, peak heat index near 100. Cooling Centers open

A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8:00 P.M. today, as temperatures rise into the mid 90s with a peak heat index near 100 degrees this afternoon.

The Office of Emergency Management advises residents that the North Brunswick Library (880 Hermann Road) and the North Brunswick Senior Center (15 Linwood Place) have been designated as cooling centers. The hours of the Library are from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Senior Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Here are some tips from the National Weather Service to beat the heat:
Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions...if you work outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Anyone overcome by heat stroke should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency...call 9-1-1.

Be sure to remember to provide plenty of cool water for your pets. Bring pets indoors if possible. Also keep pets out of the sun and in the shade if they must be outside.
