On 06/16/2018, at approximately 1:15 pm, SCSO Deputies responded to the 4100 block of Stony Point Road regarding shots fired.  Multiple witnesses called 911 and reported that a male subject appeared to be breaking into a nearby residence with a tire iron. The male with tire iron got into a black Cadillac sedan and fled north bound on Stony Point Road. A second witness reported that a male subject from inside the residence shot multiple rounds at the black Cadillac as it fled the area. This male subject was later seen picking up shell casing from the ground. It was also reported that one of the residents was seen carrying what appeared to be a bag of Marijuana back into the residence after the black Cadillac fled the scene.

Deputies arrived on scene and contacted the residents who were uncooperative with deputies. The residents reported that a heavy set white male adult approximately 30 years of age attempted to rob them using a tire iron.  The white male suspect fled the area in a black Cadillac. They were unable to provide any further description on the suspect or vehicle.

Deputies were able to confirm that one of the residents had shot at the black Cadillac and a second resident helped him conceal the handgun and shell casing that were collected from the ground. Deputies also confirmed that both of these subjects are convicted felons and are prohibited from carrying firearms and ammunition. Deputies recovered a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and the shell casings.

Both residents, Phillip J. Carlton 28 years of age and Reed R. Carman 56 years of age, were arrested and booked at the SCSO MADF on charges of 246.3 PC - Negligent discharge of a firearm, 182(a)1 PC –Conspiracy to commit a crime, 29800(a)1 PC - Felon in possession of a firearm,  and 30305(a)1 PC – Felon in possession of ammunition.
