Advisory

Suspicious event investigated near Roosevelt School on June 14, 2018, at approximately 9:45 a.m.

On June 14, 2018, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Rahway Police Department received a suspicious call of a bomb in the area of the 300 block of Lake Avenue. From the onset, the called appeared to lack authenticity, but in an over-abundance of caution, students and staff were evacuated from Roosevelt School.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the call originated in Colonia, NJ. The Woodbridge Police Department then conducted an investigation, and located the caller.
As a precaution, Rahway Police Officers and school officials conducted a thorough check of the school and surrounding area, and found no threat to the safety of the students or residents. Once the building was determined to be safe, the students and staff returned to school to resume normal school activities.
Students, staff, and residents were never in any danger, and there was no evidence to substantiate the threat. However, the Rahway Police Department takes these matters very seriously, and will continue to investigate this incident. We work cooperatively with the schools to ensure the safety of all students, and are using this as a training lesson from which to learn and improve.
