The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

June 7th

0643 Hours: Officer Wallace investigated the theft of a white, 1993 Honda Accord (CA License #3CFB397) on the 5800 block of Riley Way.

0950 Hours: Community Service Officer Verandes seized the license plates off a vehicle for false registration on Cedar Court. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

1458 Hours: Officer Horst investigated a vehicle vandalism case on the 39900 block of Balentine Drive. The rear window of the victim’s vehicle had been shattered.

1628 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 24-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on the 5400 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1940 Hours: Officer Piquette responded to Sears, NewPark Mall for a shoplifter in custody. A 55-year-old Concord male was arrested for shoplifting, giving false identification information to a Police Officer and his outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

June 8th

0709 Hours: Officer Lenz contacted and arrested a 53-year-old transient male for possession of drug paraphernalia on the 6000 block of Amador Place. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0752 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 51-year-old female and a 56-year-old male, both from Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia on the 37800 block of Birch Street. The suspects were issued citations and released at the scene.

1034 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 21-year-old Newark female for possession of drug paraphernalia on Locust Street at Wells Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the Police Station.

1506 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to a disturbance on the 4900 block of Stafford Place. A 34-year-old Newark male was arrested for violation of a restraining order, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools and probation violation. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0003 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 26-year-old Newark male for driving under the influence on Thornton Avenue at Ruschin Drive. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

June 9th

0908 hours: Officer Mapes investigated a vehicle collision on Newark Boulevard and Thornton Avenue. Two people were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

1252 hours: Officer Pacheco responded to a disturbance at Taco Bell, 5684 Thornton Avenue. A 38-year-old Newark male was arrested disorderly conduct / being under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1605 hours: Officer Mapes investigated a report of a suspicious person at Newark Junior High. A 39-year-old Hayward male was contacted and arrested for his outstanding warrant and was subsequently booked into the Fremont Jail.

1949 Hours: Officer Piquette was contacted by NewPark Mall security who told him Sears loss prevention was watching two male subjects that were concealing merchandise inside the store. Officer Piquette located a vehicle running near the Sears lower entrance with a lone female seated in the front passenger seat. Soon after the two suspects exited Sears and entered the vehicle. Officer Piquette and Officer Taylor contacted the suspects in the vehicle and found that the female passenger, a 30-year-old from San Pablo had an outstanding warrant. One of the males, a 28-year-old from Oakland had an outstanding warrant and was in possession of drug paraphernalia, and the other male, a 29-year-old from Stockton was arrested for probation violation for having pepper spray, a speed loader and a loaded gun magazine in the vehicle. All three suspects were booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2037 Hours: Officer Horst observed a vehicle stopped on the railroad crossing on Sycamore Street. Officer Horst honked his horn to get the vehicle to move. Unaware that Officer Horst was behind him, the driver, a 27-year-old San Jose decided it would be a good idea to spin the tires creating a cloud of smoke and then take off at a high rate of speed. Officer Horst stopped the driver and issued him a citation for reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

June 10th

0927 Hours: Officer Jackman conducted a routine traffic stop of a motorcycle on the 35400 block of Newark Boulevard. The rider, a 25-year-old Newark male was issued a citation for his outstanding warrant and traffic violations and released.

0927 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 61-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrant during a pedestrian stop on the 34700 block of Ardenwood Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1100 Hours: Officer Mapes responded to a disturbance on the 37400 block of Cherry Street. A 38-year-old transient male was contacted and arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2354 Hours: Officer Piquette contacted and arrested a 30-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released.
