UPDATE: Nicolet Drive is now open for traffic in both directions. Crews are still working in the area, so please drive slowly and watch for workers. There still may be temporary lane closures, but traffic is able to get through both directions.

On Wednesday, June 6 2018 at approximately 9:51 pm the Green Bay Police Department, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Police Department and Green Bay Fire Department responded to the area of Nicolet Drive and East Shore Dr for a single vehicle accident with injury. Prior to the accident, witnesses reported seeing the offending vehicle driving westbound on Nicolet Dr at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle damaged two utility poles and two utility boxes. The vehicle was severely damaged and on fire when officers arrived.
The driver, a 62 year old Florida resident, had been pulled from the burning vehicle by two citizens. These citizens, two adult Green Bay residents, remained on scene and provided statements to police. The driver was the vehicle’s only occupant. He admitted to drinking alcohol. The male suffered a serious arm injury which was not life threatening. The male was processed for 1st offense Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated. He was admitted to a local hospital.
The area of Nicolet Drive and East Shore Drive is closed to vehicular traffic. Green Bay Public Works put out barricades to re-direct vehicle traffic. Wisconsin Public Service was called out in an attempt to restore power to the area. It is anticipated the area will be closed for traffic until 10 am on Thursday, 06-07-18.
Detour of the area would be Scottwood Dr to Bay Settlement Dr to 54/57, to University.
