Newark Promotes Summer Safety
Summer is almost here… children will be out of school enjoying all sorts of activities indoors and outdoors.
Some types of summer activities include…
• Summer Camps • Biking
• Swimming • Skate Boarding
• Family Vacations • Road Trips
• Hiking • Boating
Here are some summer safety tips:
Summer camps – if your child is going to summer camp, be sure to check out the organization or business running the camp. The Better Business Bureau or State Attorney General's office may have information that’s helpful. Ask how they screen the individuals they hire to run the programs. If an overnight, sleep-away camp, find out what safety measures they have to keep campers and staff safe from intruders or other emergencies.
Traveling – if visiting relatives or friends away from home, make sure your kids have safe fun activities they can engage in. Are other kids in the area and what are their ages? While you are away from home use the Vacation Home Check service by the Newark Police Department (link below).
Warm Temperatures – always make sure to have water handy for adults, children and pets. Hydration is extremely important in hot or humid weather. Always use sunscreen for any outdoor activity.
Summer is a time for rest and rejuvenation as well as experiencing new adventures and sites. Enjoy yourself and be safe!
