Santa Rosa man arrested for battery on an officer, DUI, and Hit & Run

On Friday, June 1, 2018, at approximately 7:25 p.m. Santa Rosa Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Summerfield Road to investigate the report of a subject with a gun.

A concerned citizen called the police department describing a road rage incident involving a male subject who was driving erratically and crashed into a curb. During the minor collision, a dog was ejected from the vehicle. The driver then aggressively approached the citizen with a suspected firearm in his possession.

Numerous officers arrived at the area and began searching for the involved driver. After locating his abandoned vehicle, two uniformed gang detectives located the male subject on a paved pathway just south of San Antonio Drive near Summerfield Road. Fearing the subject may still be in possession of a firearm, they ran toward him and yelled commands for the subject to get down onto the ground. The male refused police commands. While attempting to detain the male, four police officers wrestled and fought with him for control of his hands and legs. The male resisted those attempts, reached his hands toward his waistband, and kicked at officers. Ultimately the male was controlled in handcuffs and placed under arrest.

One of the involved officers suffered injuries from the struggle and was treated at the hospital before being released. No firearms were located during the investigation. The involved dog was located and taken to a local veterinarian for medical care.

The male subject was identified as Robert Casey Jr., a 49-year old Santa Rosa resident. Casey was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for the following charges;
69(a) PC – Resisting arrest by use of force or violence
243(c)(2) PC – Battery on a Peace Officer
20002(a) VC – Hit and Run
23152(f) VC – DUI Drugs
11377(a) HS – Possession of a controlled substance
1203.2 PC – Violation of probation
