Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigators have charged two men with capital murder after they shot and killed a Channelview man while attempting to rob him.

Investigators have released the names of Roderick Coffman (DOB 11/10/97) and Benjamin Terrell Gowdy (DOB 08/17/99).

On Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at approximately 9:05 pm, deputies responded to a shooting call at the Woodrow Apartments located at 16415 Woodrow Street, Channelview Texas, in east Harris County.

Upon arriving, deputies located a shooting victim, 56 year old Russell Eugene Hamm lying on the balcony outside his apartment.

Hamm was pronounced deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Deputies spoke with several witnesses who reported hearing a gunshot prior to finding the victim, and seeing two black male running from the scene.

Investigators were able to obtain information that led to Coffman and Gowdy as the suspects who knocked on the door of Russell’s apartment. When he answered the door, they both pulled handguns and demanded money.

They are both being held under no bond at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office detention facility.
