Crime Alert Bulletin

Notable Cases

On Monday, 05-21-18 at 12:51 a.m., Officer Ortiz and Officer Yip were dispatched to the area of John Daly Boulevard and Poncetta Drive on a report of a stranded vehicle. The reporting party said a white SUV was on the island and unable to get off the island. Officers contacted the driver and immediately smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the driver’s breath. The driver said she only had two drinks and agreed to participate in a field sobriety test. The driver, a 61-year old Hayward resident, was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after she failed the field sobriety tests.

On Thursday, 05-24-18 at 11:26 a.m., several officers were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Windsor Drive on a report of a female who was screaming. The dispatchers advised that the female was screaming because she found someone inside her house. The reporting party said when she pulled into her driveway, she looked toward the entrance of her home and noticed the front door was ajar. The reporting party said she saw a subject described as an unknown race male, dark skin, 5’8”, medium build, wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans and a black ski mask standing inside her home. The reporting party said the subject made eye contact with her and immediately ran out of the home carrying a small bag in his hand. The reporting party said the suspect then ran into a white Honda with no license plates which immediately fled the area. Police officers started canvassing the area and found a vehicle matching the description at the Thornton Beach parking lot. The driver of the vehicle emphatically denied being involved in the burglary. This case is assigned to investigators.

On Friday, 05-25-18 at 10:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1000 block of Brunswick Street on a report of a stolen vehicle. The reporting party said her 42-year old son took her car without her permission. On Sunday, 05-27-18 at 11:00 p.m., Officer Clinkscales was on patrol in the area of Brunswick Street and Templeton Avenue and saw the vehicle. Officer Clinkscales contacted the victim and asked her if she knew her vehicle was parked in the area. The victim didn’t know her son returned the vehicle and didn’t know her son was home. She led the officer to the son’s room and arrested him for vehicle theft, vehicle theft with priors and for receiving stolen property.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
